Bolt Grade Selection Checklist

A simple checklist to help buyers compare bolt property classes, load conditions and compatibility before ordering.

Bolt Grade Selection Checklist
Choosing the correct bolt grade requires more than selecting the strongest option available. Start by confirming the working load, shock or vibration level, joint design and operating environment. The correct bolt grade must also match the nut grade, washer selection and installation method.

Metric property classes such as 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 indicate different mechanical strengths. Higher classes usually support higher loads, but they may not be suitable if the surrounding joint components are not designed for them.

Material, heat treatment and surface finish all influence performance. In corrosive environments, grade alone is not enough; corrosion resistance must be reviewed together with strength.

A good purchasing checklist should include size, standard, material or property class, finish, quantity, application and any certification requirement. This reduces wrong ordering and improves traceability.
