SS 304 vs SS 316 Fasteners

Compare corrosion resistance, composition and applications of SS 304 and SS 316 fasteners.

SS 304 vs SS 316 Fasteners
SS 304 and SS 316 are two of the most common stainless steel grades used in industrial fasteners. SS 304 offers good corrosion resistance and is suitable for general fabrication, machinery, food equipment and many indoor or mild outdoor environments.

SS 316 contains molybdenum, which improves resistance to chlorides and harsher corrosion conditions. It is therefore preferred for marine, coastal, chemical and more aggressive service environments.

From a purchasing perspective, SS 316 usually costs more than SS 304. The right choice depends on the service condition, not only the initial material rate. Using SS 304 in a mild environment can be cost-effective, while SS 316 is worth the investment when corrosion risk is higher.

When ordering, mention the grade clearly along with size, standard and quantity. SS 304 and SS 316 should not be treated as interchangeable without application review.
